B2004/28 - $700,000 FOR RAVENSHOE STATE SCHOOL

Ravenshoe State School students and staff will benefit from a $700,000 grant from the Australian Government for a building project at the school, the Leader of The
Nationals in the Senate, Ron Boswell, announced today.

The grant will be used to refurbish an existing building on the secondary campus
where the manual arts facility will be relocated. The building project is expected to be completed by 31 May 2004.

“Our Government places great importance on the need to develop and maintain school infrastructure and this new facility will help the school provide the best
possible learning environment for local students,” Senator Boswell said.

He said the grant is made possible through the Government’s Capital Grants
Programme for Schools which is designed to improve the educational outcomes of educationally disadvantaged students.

In 2004, around $241 million will be allocated nationally to capital projects in
government schools.

Between 2001 and 2004, the Australian Government will provide around $25.2 billion in direct funding to schools and school students.

“This follows the Australian Government’s commitment to a strong and effective
school system, maximising opportunities for young Australians, regardless of where
they live,” Senator Boswell said.
